Sepia Tribal is a FatChanceBellyDance® Sister Studio in the Chicago dance community. Our aesthetic celebrates dark, earthy textures. Through our interpretation of American Tribal Style® belly dance, students learn to share their individual style within a group dance.
This dance style celebrates all body types, ages, and personalities.
What is American Tribal Style® belly dance?
American Tribal Style® Belly Dance (ATS®) is a modern style of dance created by FatChanceBellyDance® director, Carolena Nericcio. It blends several folkloric dances, which include Indian, North African, Flamenco, and Middle-Eastern elements, into an accessible, improvised group dance. A little about me...
With years of ballet training behind me, I began my ATS® belly dance journey in 2009. Belly dance was a fitness curiosity, and I enrolled in my first class after a few years of uncertainty. There, the obsession started, where I practiced in front of my giant dining room mirror and in the kitchen. Two years later, I received my ATS® General Skills certification. I completed my ATS® Teacher Training in October 2014. Current dance efforts include workshops with FatChanceBellyDance®, classes with Tamarind Tribal, and most recently - tribal fusion projects. I am the director of the ATS® troupe Amaranth. My hobbies include loving beets, earth tones, and unshiny metals.
