What is American Tribal Style® belly dance?
American Tribal Style® Belly Dance (ATS®) is a modern style of dance created by FatChanceBellyDance® director, Carolena Nericcio. It blends several folkloric dances, which include Indian, North African, Flamenco, and Middle-Eastern elements, into an accessible, improvised group dance. I began taking belly dance classes in 2009. It was a fitness curiosity, and I enrolled in my first class after a few years of uncertainty. Two years later, I received my ATS® General Skills certification. I completed my ATS® Teacher Training in October 2014. Current dance efforts include workshops with FatChanceBellyDance®, classes in other styles of dance, and most recently - tribal fusion projects. I am the director of the ATS® troupe Amaranth. My hobbies include embracing asymmetry and stepping outside my comfort zone.
